Child-Friendly Restaurants & Cafes

There are some great kid-friendly restaurants and cafes in Christchurch.

This list has been compiled from recommendations of mums in Christchurch. I’ve added a (D) by those that are evening dinner options.

Antidote
Shop 6 Carnaby Mall, New Brighton; Tuesday to Saturday 8.00 am to 4 pm, Sundays and Mondays Closed; 03 595 2126
A child friendly place, but also satisfy people who have special dietary requirements (dairy, gluten, sugar free). They also have regular events for kids/families. They have a tuned piano and anybody is welcome to play it. Find more details on their website.

Artisan Cafe
18 High St, Rangiora; 7am – 5:30pm; 03 311 8633
They wanted parent groups to be able to relax and enjoy their coffee so they built a separated play area for children as well as parents changing room, both located on the second floor.  Info found here.

Boat Shed
2 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch; 7:00am – 5:30pm (summer) & 7am-5pm (winter), open 7 days

(D) The Bower
487 New Brighton Rd, Christchurch; Hours: Cafe 9am-9pm Bar 9am-Late; Phone: 03 388 9138. They have a great playground, fully fenced, great kids menu and many colourful pictures and things on the walls that the kids enjoy looking at.

The Restaurant caters for and welcomes Families with children of all ages whilst realistically offering quality food & beverages for all ages and budgets, including a “Seniors & Smaller Appetite” menu and “Children’s menu”. Info found here.

Has a kids area, complete with the latest videos, opens onto a seating area so parents can enjoy a few moments respite from their littlies. (Have also heard that the first fluffy is free and then additional just 50cents.) Info found here.

Mother Craythornes offers a great menu selection for breakfast, lunch, dinner and light snacks, as well as providing a full range of fine ales, wines and spirits. (Have heard that the kids meals are only $5 or $10 depending on their age and it’s nice for an evening meal.) Info found here.

Meshino is a sophisticated suburban café by day and a bustling bistro by night. (I’ve been told it has an outdoor play area for children.) Info found here.

Raeward Fresh

Has an enclosed children’s outdoor playground. Their focus is to be a family-friendly inviting café for you to relax, with exceptional fresh food. Info found here.

Raspberry Cafe

Good, homemade, delicious and satisfying food in an environment that is comfortable, peaceful (well, most of the time!) and conducive to a nice dining experience. Info found here.

Red Cafe (inside South Library)

Ristretto Cafe

They have a secure and safe childrens play area so you can relax. “A must visit if you love great coffee and food!” There is also a park and playground across the road. Info found here.

The Store at Tai Tapu

A popular destination for families, children are always welcomed and they have a ‘just for kids’ menu, a sandpit and indoor activities for the little ones so adults can enjoy a relaxed dining experience. Info found here.
