Little Red Riding Hood

Adapted by Brendon Bennetts. Directed by Daniel Pengelly. This production of Little Red Riding Hood is a playful retelling of the traditional story with all of the well-loved characters: daring and adventurous Red, her safety conscious mother, the serious and responsible woodcutter, the kind hearted grandma, and of course the mischievous wolf. Come and celebrate the power of imagination as we use song, slapstick and stagecraft to help Red learn when to take risks… and when to stay on the path. Price: All tickets $10. Limited free on-site parking is available during performances. Canterbury Masters Figure Skating & Open Invitation Championships

The Breeze Walking Festival

26 September – 11 October

This year the festival has been extended to cover the duration of the October school holidays with plenty of choice. From child-friendly jaunts to a more energetic trek for the experienced walker, some include activities which will cater for all interests and ages. 16 days of 37 free walks for all terrains, ages, and interests. The walks take in areas within Christchurch city, the Port Hills, and parts of the Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts, including coastlines, forests, ridgelines, river ways, wetlands, gardens and city streets. The Breeze Walking Festival is a chance to discover new places, learn more about old haunts, try fun activities, and above all to enjoy fresh air, spring sunshine and good company. Whether you’re a fan of the outdoors, local history, art, wildlife, socialising, or keeping fit, there’s a walk for you. You can download the programme to browse the 37 walks on offer. Ken the Kiwi Challenge

Can you complete the school holiday challenge? If you can find “Ken the Kiwi” in our wooden maze, you can enter the draw to win a prize! Great fun for the family and there are special school holiday family packages! 2 adults and up to 3 children – $49; 1 adult and up to 3 children – $35. Open 7 days a week during the school holidays 10am – 5pm. Come on out to Tothill’s Mazes and see if you can complete the challenge!

 

French Fest

9-11 October // Akaroa

Join us to celebrate all things Gallic and embrace the unique beauty, culture and heritage of Akaroa, New Zealand’s sole French settlement just over the hill from Christchurch. The weekend festivities include the French Fest street party, festival market, family fun day, Cabaret show and fireworks. Click here to see all the events happening.
The Festival is produced by the Christchurch City Council on behalf of the Akaroa Heritage Festival Society and is fortunate to have the support of Alliance Française, the Comte de Paris Descendants Group and Ōnuku Rūnanga who are helping deliver a fun filled schedule of events.

  

SCAPE 8 New Intimacies

A Public Art Walkway to help people create new memories and re-connect with the changed Christchurch landscape. SCAPE 8 New Intimacies, curated by Rob Garrett. The Christchurch Biennial will draw on the projects of both local and International artists; Antony Gormley, Pauline Rhodes, Hannah Kidd, Nathan Pohio, Fiona Jack, Peter Atkins and Judy Millar. The artists works will be accompanied by public participation project #ThatTimeYouHelped Our Portraits of People Reaching Out to One Another. These projects shape a Public Art Walkway, alongside a programme of artist talks, guided tours and public workshops throughout the six weeks of SCAPE 8 New Intimacies. SCAPE 8 Art Central Hub: Corner of Gloucester & Colombo Streets. The Public Art Walkway is mapped as a half hour walk to see the works or take as longer and enjoy the activities and atmosphere along the way. 

The Busk-a-Thon

17 October // Various venues 

On the 17th October in support of the wonderful local charity, Home & Family, performers from around Christchurch will participate in the Busk-A-Thon. Over 24 hours you can catch live music and donate to this wonderful cause! This exciting event will run across multiple venues and online from 8am on Saturday 17 October through to 8am the following day. The central performance venue, Charles Luney auditorium at St Margaret’s College, will showcase performers for the majority of that time. Busk-A-Thon will involve school children, up and coming performers, well-known national performers and will have scores of music fans, parents, school children, community groups, and volunteers involved.
