Little Red Riding Hood

30 Sept – 10 Oct // 1pm // The Court Theatre at The Shed in Addington 


Adapted by Brendon Bennetts. Directed by Daniel Pengelly. This production of Little Red Riding Hood is a playful retelling of the traditional story with all of the well-loved characters: daring and adventurous Red, her safety conscious mother, the serious and responsible woodcutter, the kind hearted grandma, and of course the mischievous wolf. Come and celebrate the power of imagination as we use song, slapstick and stagecraft to help Red learn when to take risks… and when to stay on the path. Price: All tickets $10. Limited free on-site parking is available during performances. Whizz! Bang! Pop! Fizz! Celebrate creativity in the city centre between 3 – 4 October 2015. Across the weekend, a number of free, pop-up ‘Fun Palaces’ will be hosting exciting arts, science and culture activities for people of all ages and abilities. Join in and discover your inner artist or scientist! Activities include: Draw like Michelangelo, Lego mosaic making, Cyanotype prints, Opera sing-a-long, Minecraft and much more! Fun Palaces: All Right? Amble

4 October // 11-3pm // Christchurch Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre

Part treasure hunt, part orienteering, this is a family fun walk with a difference. Pick up your map from the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre between 11am and 2.30pm to find hidden delights. Collect a stamp at each point and return your map for a prize. The walk is 2 – 4km, buggy and wheelchair friendly. The All Right? Amble is part of The Breeze Walking Festival (26 September – 10 October). The Breeze Walking Festival

26 September – 10 October

This year the festival has been extended to cover the duration of the October school holidays with plenty of choice. From child-friendly jaunts to a more energetic trek for the experienced walker, some include activities which will cater for all interests and ages. 16 days of 37 free walks for all terrains, ages, and interests. The walks take in areas within Christchurch city, the Port Hills, and parts of the Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts, including coastlines, forests, ridgelines, river ways, wetlands, gardens and city streets. The Breeze Walking Festival is a chance to discover new places, learn more about old haunts, try fun activities, and above all to enjoy fresh air, spring sunshine and good company. Whether you’re a fan of the outdoors, local history, art, wildlife, socialising, or keeping fit, there’s a walk for you. You can download the programme to browse the 37 walks on offer. Pukeko Stomp

7 October // 10-12.30pm // Clarevale Reserve

Walk, jump or stomp as you explore your way around Travis Wetlands with Perky the Pukeko. Discover his friends as they play amongst the reeds and fallen logs. Listen to stories about Perky at the halfway point (Travis Information Centre) while you enjoy a fruit kebab. Meet at Clarevale Reserve on Travis Country Drive from 10.30am to walk
through the wetlands while singing songs and learning about where Perky lives. It’s a perfect outing for babies in buggies, young walkers and their families. Scooters not suitable but balance bikes okay. Bring a picnic and relax in the Reserve afterwards, playground and toilet available. Parking available on the Reserve. No dogs please. Part of the Breeze Walking Festival 2015, a Christchurch City Council event in partnership with the great team from Plunket who will have parenting resources and information to share. Spring into Oxford

4 October // 9am – 2pm // Pearson Park, Oxford

An extravaganza of classic cars, entertainment and family activities set in the rural village of Oxford. Classic and vintage car display in Oxford: Markets, Live Music, Food Stalls, Children’s Entertainment, Puppet Show, Oxford Line, Dancing, Raffles. And while you are there, why not visit the local museum, art gallery, cafes and shops. Ken the Kiwi Challenge

26 September – 11 October // 10am-5pm // Tothill’s Mazes, 493 Shands Road, Hornby

Can you complete the school holiday challenge? If you can find “Ken the Kiwi” in our wooden maze, you can enter the draw to win a prize! Great fun for the family and there are special school holiday family packages! 2 adults and up to 3 children – $49; 1 adult and up to 3 children – $35. Open 7 days a week during the school holidays 10am – 5pm. Come on out to Tothill’s Mazes and see if you can complete the challenge!

French Fest

9-11 October // Akaroa

Join us to celebrate all things Gallic and embrace the unique beauty, culture and heritage of Akaroa, New Zealand’s sole French settlement just over the hill from Christchurch.
