Winter Second Hand Book Sale

Make your selection by listening to some great live music and pick up some quality locally grown spray free veg/fruit, plants, flowers, take the opportunity to sample some award winning artisan produce and baking or even find that extra special gift handcrafted by one of Lincoln Farmers’ and Craft Market’s talented crafters – including wood products, hand made clothing and winter woollens, art, toys, jewellery…. . Kids In Cars Mainland Family Fun Day

Kids in cars, is finally making their way to the mainland to put on our KIC South Island Family Fun Day. The KIC crew have been out an about chatting to our special charities in Christchurch , and we are all looking forward to a fun day. As per our Auckland Event , this is a free day for the families of our supported charities , and if the general public would like to come down and have some fun , these will be a small charge for this. We are looking forward to a fun day and are hoping to make this an annual event in Christchurch… track rides – bouncy castles – face painting – coffee – hot food – balloons – and lots of fun. Storylines Family Day

The Storylines Festival Family Days are a breeding ground for this generation’s Margaret Mahy or Joy Cowley, or indeed for the next Eleanor Catton! But more than that, they are the place where our children and their families and our authors, illustrators and storytellers share the magic of our stories, right here and now. Roll up, roll up… Christchurch Storylines Family Day approaches and have we got a fantastic day lined up for you! Join us in the Upper riccarton Library on Sunday 23rd August from 10am – 3pm, for a fun-filled day of authors, illustrators, performers and plenty more book – based delights galore! You can also be in with a chance to win! You can enter on the day in our competition zone and we will also have on the spot prizes for fancy dress so come along as your favourite story characters! So, with books, art, performance, competitions and facepainting …and all for free, what is there not to love! Kids For Kids – Slice of Heaven

Kids for Kids is back in 2015 with its iconic mass choir performances. Kids for Kids presents a brand new show ‘Slice of Heaven’, fronted by Jackie Clarke and Nathan King showcasing our own talented kiwi kids as its stars! ‘Slice of Heaven’ is jam-packed with 100% Kiwi loved songs. It’s a guaranteed fun night out for the entire family! As always, the show promotes the work of World Vision and continues to give kiwi kids a fantastic opportunity to shine as the stars of the show, while teaching them about the concept of global citizenship. Parenting Week 2015

24 – 30 August // Various times and venues

The Neighbourhood Trust presents it’s annual Parenting Week programme. This week-long schedule includes seminars, workshops and practical skills to add to your parenting toolbox. Qualified speakers such as Diane Levy, John Cowan and Nathan Wallis (to name but a few) will be covering aspects of Parenting at all stages. Whatever stage you or your children are at, there’s something here for everyone. Festival of Voices

25 August // 7pm // Horncastle Arena 

A huge range of Christchurch choirs and vocal groups, all with a contemporary flair will entertain with repertoire from pop, rock, barbershop, musical theatre and more. $5 at the door.

Strum Strike and Blow

26 August // 7-8:15pm // Horncastle Arena

From over 30 Christchurch schools, 1000 students will join together to play 500 ukuleles, 400 marimbas and 100 recorders accompanied by guest band with Henare Kaa, Michael Story and Luke Smillie. Featuring catchy music from the three groups of instruments and including a new massed piece by Michael Bell and conducted by Andrew Withington. $5 at door. Official Website: Click here. Facebook Event: Click here.

Christchurch Arts Festival 2015 : A Midsummer Night’s Dream

27-29 August // Isaac Theatre Royal, Gloucester Street

In an unprecedented artistic coup, the Royal New Zealand Ballet is thrilled that Liam Scarlett, one of the most sought-after choreographers working today, will create his first full-length, main stage production, for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, in 2015. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, based on Shakespeare’s play and with Mendelssohn’s wonderful incidental music, will have its world premiere in Wellington in August 2015. Scarlett’s musical, witty choreography, displayed in designs by Tracy Grant Lord (Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet) and lighting by Kendall Smith (Giselle) will bring Shakespeare’s enchanted wood and vivid characters, to fresh new life for New Zealand audiences. Liam Scarlett was appointed The Royal Ballet’s first Artist in Residence in 2012. He has created a string of acclaimed ballets for The Royal Ballet, and his commissions for international companies have included works for New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, English National Ballet, K-Ballet (Japan) and the BalletBoyz (UK). A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a co-production with Queensland Ballet. Official Website: Click here. Facebook Event: Click here
