The Food Show

New Zealand Music Month 2015

Firmly entrenched as part of our cultural landscape, over the course of the last decade the month of May has gone from a period of encouraging radio to play more local tunes, to a 31 day celebration of homegrown talent across the length and breadth of the country. NZ Music Month is a promotion run by the NZ Music Commission that takes place each May, in association with other organisations including NZ On Air, Recorded Music New Zealand, APRA, The Music Managers Forum, and the Radio Broadcasters Association. Lincoln’s Grand Pumpkin Competition

2nd May  // 10am – 1pm // on green beside Hillyers Cafe, Gerald Street, Lincoln

Fun family event set in the heart of the country township of Lincoln- enter your prize pumpkin in one of the many competitions held on the day including – Heaviest, Ugliest Pumpkin, Best Looking Pumpkin/Squash Family Vegetable, get creative by entering your pumpkin in the Best Dressed Pumpkin Category (Adult & Children Sections) or for the budding master chefs among you perhaps enter the Best Pumpkin Baked Goods Competition – slice/cake etc. There will be great foot tapping music to enjoy throughout the event plus lots of quality local produce, baking and crafts – including artisan breads, award winning cheeses, wine, spray free vegetables, plants, sweet treats and a wide range of unique handcrafted gifts. Come and join in the community spirit of this annual Lincoln event. Cloth Nappy Week Coffee Group

3rd May // 7-8pm // Parents Centre, 2/2 Leacroft St

Come along to Coffee Group….and have a great night out! Everyone is welcome to attend, you don’t have to be a Cloth Nappy user to join in the fun… Loads of prizes (not just cloth nappies) to give away at the coffee group from our various sponsors. In Christchurch we have an Out and About Buggy from Baby on the move to give away: A Motorola Baby monitor, A Lascal Buggy Board, A Mustela Nursery Pack, A Kozy Baby Carrier, Plus loads more! The cloth nappy week coffee groups are for parents to get together and socialise, play a few games, win some prizes and have a few laughs along the way. It is not a formal event and kids are welcome to attend with you too. Bring a plate, your mate and a gold coin donation…. At the completion of the coffee group the treasure hunt will commence.

 

Buskers Carnival

It’s back again! The SYC BUSKERS CARNIVAL! A fun and entertaining night for the whole family! Amazing Live Acts, including Josh Grimaldi, Brendan Dooley, Melanie Poppins and more! Delicious food stalls with all your favourite Carnival treats! Tickets available from Sunday 19th April at South West Baptist Church Reception Free popcorn on the night for pre-sold tickets! Door Sales available on the night – EFTPOS will be available. Food stalls open from 6:00pm. Spectrum Street Art Festival

14th Feb – 10 May  // YMCA

Featuring: The largest Banksy collection in the southern hemisphere. Who: Cope 2, Sofles, Adnate, Owen Dippie, Flox, Buff Monster, Dcypher & Jacob Yikes. Admission is free, and there are rumored giant spray cans adorning the venue, customized by selected artists. All the major players in spray paint manufacturing are set to contribute, and we imagine this event will undoubtedly cement Christchurch’s reputation as one of the country’s great street art advocates. Official Website: Click here

Thursdays at Papanui Baptist Church, 10am $3, first 3 sessions free, all ages

Waltham Playgroup. Run out of Waltham Primary School in the hall Tues mornings 9 – 12. Huge warm area with fun stations to explore. Homemade baking and fruit for morning tea and special treats and coffee/teas/hot choc for the caregivers.

Hornby under 5’s playgroup, 9.30 – 11.30am on Tuesdays at Hope Presbyterian 27 Amyes Road

Linwood Playcentre 9-1 Monday to Friday’s at 628 Worcester Street. First few visits free, fees $40 a term for one session or five or covered by winz childcare subsidy. Meets winz social obligations for ece, plus stay and play or a weekly drop off for older children, trips etc. Free adult education through Canterbury Playcentre, play workshops etc..
