Fanzone Family Fun Day!

13th – 23rd February  // 10-2pm // Victoria Square

Open and free to the public, fans, friends and families will be able to sit and experience all the thrills and action of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Come down to the ICC Cricket World Cup Fanzone and bring the family for a day of fun with inflatable fun stations, backyard cricket, face painting and more! Cultural groups performing. Live music. For further information on the Fanzone and the Fantrail including a map detailing the location further information about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 please visit www.christchurch2015.co.nz. Located in the heart of the city, an interactive “Fanzone” will be open on the 13 February for 11 days. Anthony Harper Summer Theatre presents Peter Pan

Excitement is in the air! Escape from the traffic hassles, money worries and holiday season stresses and fly away with us this summer to Neverland. The Forge at The Court in collaboration with The Court Youth Company presents a new adaption of Peter Pan for the whole family. Our story begins when Peter Pan comes to Wendy’s window and together they stumble across Neverland, where they join the Lost Boys and of course Tinkerbell to do battle with the wicked Captain Hook and his pirate crew. Action, sword fights, comedy and tragedy… this show will have it all this summer. Set up a chair or rug on the lawn at Riccarton House and settle in with the boy who would not grow up, for a chaotic, cheeky and charming version of this favourite story. Full of the joys and wonderment of childhood, sprinkled with the dark fears and bittersweet moments that inhabit our youth, Peter Pan will delight the immortal child in all of us. No performances Monday and Tuesday. Street parking is available or limited car parking at the Riccarton Bush car park. Please be aware of the Saturday markets and allow yourself time so you can truly enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this location. Once Upon A Time exhibition and public programmes

Come and view four original fairy tales bewitchingly illustrated in hand-bound books. Saturday 21st February 8pm: The Story Collective storytellers perform Grimm brothers’ tales featured in the exhibition – by torchlight! Bring the whole family, your pj’s and teddy bears. Hot chocolate provided.
Sunday 22nd 2pm: The story of a distracted scholar: Masha Oliver will share the most interesting and witty facts from her research on collecting, editing and publishing the world’s most famous fairy tale collection. Open to all.

Spectrum Street Art Festival

14th Feb – 10 May  // YMCA

Featuring: The largest Banksy collection in the southern hemisphere. Who: Cope 2, Sofles, Adnate, Owen Dippie, Flox, Buff Monster, Dcypher & Jacob Yikes. Admission is free, and there are rumored giant spray cans adorning the venue, customized by selected artists. All the major players in spray paint manufacturing are set to contribute, and we imagine this event will undoubtedly cement Christchurch’s reputation as one of the country’s great street art advocates. Official Website: Click here

Aoraki Open Dragon Boat Regatta

22nd February  // 10am // Lake Pegasus

The annual opening event of the dragon boating calender held at the beautiful Lake Pegasus. Local teams from corporate business, open teams and high schools will compete to be the fastest crew on the water over 250m ,500m and 1km distances. The competition will be fierce and local food vendors will be on site to provide refreshments. Come along and join the fun and watch some of countries best dragon boat crews compete on their home turf of Canterbury. Official Website: Click here

 

Garden Party at Edmonds

Orienteering Day at the Groynes

22nd February  // 10:30am – 1pm // The Groynes, Recreation Lakes, Johns Road

Walk, skip or run! – Suitable for individuals, groups, families. New – not like our previous set-route courses at Bottle Lake – this year it’s an event where YOU can select your route and collect as many points as you can in one hour. Markers at the furthest distance or challenging locations are allocated higher points. Young families can make a leisurely route. The course will take you to places within the Groynes which you have not yet discovered yet including the Otokaikino walkway. Tips and advice provided by volunteers from the Peninsula and Plains Orienteering Club. Free Hellers sausage sizzle provided. Please note: There is no mountain bike option provided this year. There is a new permanent course in the Groynes for individuals and groups to enjoy.  For more information about where to pick up a map contact 941 5333.

The Good Night Film Festival: Frozen

Bring a blanket, cushion and a torch for a mini-season of three outdoor movies over Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There will be pre-show entertainment from 6pm, followed by the movie at 7pm. Entry is a gold coin donation to The Emergency Care Foundation – a local charity that helps improve the quality of patient care in emergencies.
