Banks Peninsula Walking Festival

15 & 16th November // Lyttelton, Little River, Akaroa, Banks Peninsula

Over forty exciting walks make up the Banks Peninsula Walking Festival – this year running over four weekends in November. Highlights include the new Rod Donald hut, Onawe Pa, and the family overnight camp on Quail Island. Book now to avoid missing out. All walks are lead by experienced volunteer guides. In the Court of the Tyrant King: Dinosaurs! 

18th November // 6pm  // The Bird Hall; Canterbury Museum; Rolleston Avenue

Hear all about tyrannosaurs from world-renowned dinosaur expert Dr Thomas Holtz, visiting from the United States. How did these terrifying creatures evolve, live – and die out? Holtz takes you on a fascinating journey to explore the origins of tyrannosarus, the environment in which they lived, their adaptations, their feeding habits, and more.

Palaeontologist Dr Holtz is the writer of Dinosaurs: The most complete, up-to-date encyclopedia for dinosaur lovers of all ages (2007). He was a consultant for the BBC’s Walking with Dinosaurs series (1999) and is currently Senior Lecturer in the University of Maryland’s Department of Geology. He has been brought to Canterbury Museum with support from National Services Te Paerangi.

Rutherford – Full Steam Ahead!

9th September–19th November // 9am to 5pm  // Canterbury Museum

In 1935, when only eight-years-old, Patrick Fowler was given a model locomotive as a surprise gift after taking part in a train-naming ceremony at St Pancras Railway Station, London. The train was named after his world-famous grandfather, New Zealand physicist and chemist Ernest Rutherford. See it at the Canterbury Museum. Contact Phone: 366 5000. Hoon Hay Fiesta 2014

Fun Fair

22nd November // 11-3pm  // St Mary’s Church Square, Poulson St, Addington

The Addington Fun Fair features home-made carnival games, pony rides, a bouncy castle, races, Devonshire Teas, ethnic food, gelato and more will fill the tree-filled square. 35+ stalls will include baking, local community groups, white elephant, books, crafts and more. A much -loved part of the fair is the concert featuring this year, Nakey, Ben Eldridge, the Addington Choir singers and more. Homemade carnival games are always a delightful part of this fair: the Great Sheep Catapult, Giraffe stacker and more will be present. This year as well, Wateratz will make an appearance – giant inflatable, clear orbs floating on water for kids to play inside. The rain day is Sunday 23 November from 12pm – 4pm to accommodate church services. Stall enquiries to: shauna.robins@gmail.com

 

St Martins School Summer Fiesta

Come along to the St Martins School Summer Fiesta and enjoy bouncy castles, pony rides, home baking,  toffee apples, Devonshire teas, face painting, hairbraiding, stage entertainment …. not to mention all glorious food – curries, sushi, bacon butties. Or you can pick up a Christmas gift or three, plants for your garden, browse through pre-loved book and white elephant!

 

St Albans School – Monster Fair

Family games, face painting, bouncy castles, swap stalls (bring your books and toys to swap!) and a BBQ – a fun event for everyone to enjoy! The Summer of Fun events will be happening across Greater Christchurch throughout the summer.
