MORE FM Lantern Parade

5th July // 4:30 – 6:30pm //  Central City, Christchurch

Come and celebrate the launch of TV2 KidsFest 2014 with the More FM Lantern Parade! Bring your own lantern, lights, or anything that glows! This year the parade will begin from outside the Christchurch City Council building on Worcester Boulevard with an exciting finish featuring performances and a surprise finale in Cathedral Square.

4.30pm- Parade to assemble outside the Christchurch City Council building on Worcester Boulevard. 5.30pm- Parade will begin, leaving from Worcester Boulevard and arriving in Cathedral Square, where an exciting finale to the parade will commence. 6.30pm- Event will finish. Tothill’s Mazes Kidsfest

Tothill’s Mazes is proud to be a part of Kidsfest these July holidays! The Kidsfest Mascot, Coolstuff, has travelled around the world and ended up at Tothill’s Mazes but he has got lost in the Kiwiana themed wooden maze. Come and help find Coolstuff in our maze! The Great Choral Get Together

5th July // 11-12:30pm // Chisnallwood Intermediate School

Anyone who loves to sing is invited to join for a joyful uplifting singing experience with internationally acclaimed Kodály expert, choral conductor and educator, Dr. James Cuskelly. Also joined by the C.S.M. Children’s choir, the participants of the Kodály training day, and hopefully dozens of other singers. Dr. Cuskelly is extremely skilled at getting the most of out singers, while keeping the needs of the singers as individuals forefront in his mind. He believes the choral experience should benefit the solo singer, and also understands the power of many voices joined as one. It is rare to get to work with a conductor of this calibre who is not only incredibly experienced, but also believes everyone has a right to sing, and anyone can learn to sing well. Mid-Winter Second Hand Book Fair

5th July // 10-1pm // On Green beside Hillyers Cafe, Gerald St. LINCOLN

Come and grab a bargain to read over the winter months, meet some talented local authors including Lincoln writers Billy Barnes, Lincoln University’s Heritage writer Ian Collins, Janet Wainscott, Clare Erasmus – author of the Kia Kaha Children Books and other writers. A great opportunity to buy some signed copies of their books and hear what inspires them. Plus simply enjoy the atmosphere of one of our special winter markets with roast chestnuts, mulled fruit drinks, award winning produce, confectionery, baking and great gift ideas including some cosy winter woollies to help keep you toasty warm. A variety of library locations & times

Science Alive presents a free after school science programme in ten libraries across Christchurch. Excellent Science Alive educators lead children through interactive activities to stimulate their interest in science, and there is something to take home every week! Body in Action

18th April – 27th July // Doors open at 9am // Canterbury Museum

Body in Action opens at Canterbury Museum on Friday 18 April and promises to put your body to the test. Do you know that in one day your heart will pump all your blood around your body about 1000 times, or that every 30 days your body produces a totally new outer layer of skin? Body in Action at Canterbury Museum will explore how the body works from head to toe. Designed for children of all ages, Body in Action offers an amazing journey of discovery through the human body. The exhibition is full of highly interactive activities and amazing information on how the human body works. For example, children can venture through the giant human mouth and giant nose, have fun in the lungs and intestines, test their aerobic capabilities, explore how the brain works and learn about bones, blood, how we hear, taste and see plus much, much more. Toured by Te Manawa Museum of Art, Science and History, Body in Action opens at Canterbury Museum on Friday 18 April, entry is free; donations are appreciated.
