Seaweek 2014

1st – 9th March // various venues

Seaweek is New Zealand’s annual national week about the sea. Hosted by the NZ Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE), Seaweek focuses on learning from the sea. It’s  time for everyone to get to know our ocean, its habitats, characteristics and inhabitants better. Seaweek 2014 will take place from 1-9 March 2014. The theme is “Our fragile, finite taonga – be alert to the fragility of the marine environment and its treasures. Kia mataara! Tiakina te au o te moana, he kōpīpī tōna“. Official Website: seaweek.org.nz

The Early Early Late Show – with The Court Jesters

The Science Alive Under 5 Fest

Christchurch Art Gallery’s latest exhibition explores the shape-shifting, experimental and seriously playful work of making art. Artists from near and far test the limits of their materials with morphing pencil sculptures, stretchy paint skins, gravity-defying stacks and videos of exploding paint-balloons. The exhibition is supported by a lively and engaging programme for both children and adults that includes floor talks, workshops and publications.


Tales@The Pallet Pavilion

Gap Filler Pallet Pavilion (Cnr Durham & Kilmore Streets)

Tales @ The Pallet Pavilion is Christchurch’s only story festival for all ages – adults and children – and using multiple story arts. There will be storytelling, books, writing, poetry, creative movement and dance, music and crafts. Come down and enjoy a rich variety of performances, workshops and displays from various cultural backgrounds. Friday’s opening night celebrates culture through story, spoken word, music and dance. Try your hand at a wide variety of workshops on Saturday, followed by a Writers’ Panel and readings. Then join in with the night’s festivites of Morris Dancing, Random Acts of Music and an Open Mic. Sunday is family fun day with fun and interactive story and musical performances and workshops for young, teens and adults. This is your last chance to experience Christchurch’s story talent in such a unique way as The Gap Filler Pallet Pavilion is coming down in April! The Hawarden A&P Show

A great day out in the country…something for everyone. Showcasing the best of the region from agricultural displays, equestrian, sheep, cattle, poultry,cooking, photography to an array of stalls, local food to live music and a community barbecue. The village green “Our Fare” section of the show will be bigger and better this year – further promoting our natural resources, Dr Steve Wratton, Professor of Ecology at Lincoln University will talk about making the most of a sustainable vegetable garden – Dr John O’Malley of the Alpha Omega Clinic will present his vast experience on healthcare and how to better look after ourselves for optimal well-being.
