For the past 21 years, the Script World Buskers Festival has aimed to stretch its wings to present the people of Christchurch with the best buskers festival in the world. The 2014  Script World Buskers Festival promises to carry on the tradition by offering a programme of events that showcases the very best of the best! We’ve enlisted fifty-five amazing street performers, comedians, fringe artists, musicians and visual artists that are destined to leave you mesmerised and in awe. Chemistry is Fun! – Science demonstrations

8, 12, 15, 19, 22 January // 11am & 2pm

It’s time to get excited by science! A series of 30 minute interactive shows will introduce children of all ages to the principles of chemistry and examples of chemistry in action. Learn about solids, liquids and gases; heat and cold; chemical interaction and which everyday things are flammable and what happens when they burn. The Three Little Pigs Grow Up

A hilarious blend of fairytale characters and the Christchurch rebuild in this fun-filled family show. Mrs Sow’s pigsty is bursting at the seams so her teenage triplets decide to build their own houses. They call on Master Builder Bob and a mate in the Council for consent but will they get approval? Meanwhile, on the farm, the three Goats Gruff find out the truth about the ugly troll, the three Bears have a pie stolen and a silly little lamb keeps asking “Are you my Mother?” Come and enjoy this mixed-up musical play, let the kids wear dress-up, bring a picnic and indulge in a family day out! Jack, The Giant and The Jiggery Plot

Elmwood Players’ Children’s Theatre returns again in 2014 with a twist on a classic fairy tale, “Jack, the Giant and the Jiggery Plot”. In a land terrorized by a fearsome giant, the Prime Minister and the General hatch a jiggery plot to appease the giant’s appetite, and become rulers of the land at the same time. The dimwitted Jack, son of Mrs Wigglebottom (a.k.a the old  woman who lived in a shoe) becomes an unwitting accomplice in their plan to kidnap the princess and give her to the giant. Live at the Point

Diamond Harbour Presents – Live at the Point Music each Sunday on the grounds of Godley House (Rugby Clubrooms if wet) 1-4pm The series was set up three years ago to provide locals and visitors a place to come and listen to some great music after the beautiful Godley House fell in the Canterbury earthquakes. Set in the grounds of the old homestead overlooking Lyttelton Harbour, the venue is perfect for a sunny Sunday afternoon picnic with friends and family and great local music. Take a cruise on the ferry from Lyttelton or a stunning car trip out to Diamond Harbour to hear music each Sunday from Dec 29 2013 right through to February 23rd 2014. I Hate Children Children’s Show

Dangerous comedy and magic for teens, tweens and adventurous moms. For parents who love kids but hate bad magic. Bad Boy Magician Paul Nathan performs for royalty, heads of state, TV and films. He lost a bet and had to do a children’s show. Surprisingly it was a hit. So now Paul is bringing the show to the Scirt World Buskers Festival to ride that kiddy-kash-kow all the way to the banky bank. $5/$10 donation per seat: $10.00. Art in the Street!

Art in the Street! – School Holiday Programme for children. What’s a ‘piece’ or a ‘burner’? What does it mean to ‘soak up’? and who are the ‘kings’ and ‘queens’? Street-art jargon will be explained and there will be plenty of art inspired fun in the Art in the Street holiday programme. Based around our RISE exhibition which showcases the work of international street artists Banksy, ROA and Thom Buchanan, and local artists Wongi and Ikarus, to name a few! CPIT’s Community Open Day

Come along with friends and family to CPIT’s Community Open Day. It’ll be a great day out for you and the kids with fun activities and entertainment for all to enjoy. The activities will include: ‘Master the Pasta’ where our cookery tutors will teach you how to make delicious fettucine; Science under the microscope – experience some ‘weird’ science as well as take a tour of our science labs; Get in the groove with Latin drumming experience Bouncy castle for the kids; Pit Stop challenge – see how fast you can change a tyre in our automotive workshops and much more…  If you are thinking about studying in 2014 – we will have tutors onsite to talk to you about your study options at CPIT or if you are already enrolled come and find out about all you need to know about where everything is and where you can get a bite to eat or your daily caffeine fix. Streets Kite Day

New Brighton beach, South of the Pier

A coastal sky filled with popping colour and fluttering shapes – Streets Kite Day has become a beloved event on the Christchurch calendar. Kites of all shapes, sizes and colours dip and dive in the New Brighton sky, to the delight of thousands who flock to the beach to watch and take part. Kite fliers travel from around the country, and around the world, for this vibrant event. This year’s Kite Day promises to be as impressive as ever, with a stunning showcase of box kites. Bring along your own kite and add to the visual symphony. Or simply settle in and gaze at the spectacular sight above. Streets Kite Day offers a great family afternoon out. So bring a rug and picnic. Pack togs and towel. Grab a fistful of ice creams, or some fish and chips and make the most of this international event on our doorstep. Try and head along early, or catch a bus to save yourself the hassle of parking. And don’t forget to pack sunscreen and hats for a sun-smart afternoon at the beach. From Iceland to Texas, Hera has been rocking the world with her gold record and support acts for Jo Cocker and Nick Cave. She’s done festivals like SXSW in Texas and Glastonbury in England, but always returns to New Zealand, her adopted home. Jed was in rock band House of Mountain backing Hera when they discovered their great musical connection. Experience their cool, celtic, Icelandic chemistry on-stage at the Botanic Gardens.
