Summer of Fun events

Various Dates, Times, & Locations around ChCh

A variety of activities from bouncy castles to archery, face painting to balloon animals. The Summer of Fun events are happening across Greater Christchurch throughout the summer. There are a variety of free things at each event. You can find out which ones are happening this week by checking here. They are funded by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust (CEAT).

 

Jellie Park Bike Jam

ASB Classical Sparks

Hagley Park North; Harper Avenue End

Public access from all areas of North Hagley Park. Car parking available on rugby fields, with entrance off Riccarton Avenue. This will be well signposted. $3 parking charge.  stponed to Sunday 2 February if wet. The city will be filled with a symphony of sparkles, space and stars in this year’s ASB Classical Sparks. The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra will be joined by New Zealand’s own ‘Queens of Comedy’ The Topp Twins, for what is guaranteed to be an evening packed with laughs, music and pyrotechnics. Little River Summer Festival. Six very special weekends. Basic information below but please search for the individual events.The Little River Summer Festival celebrates all that is special about our Little River community. Six weekends of special events, from the Agriculture Show on 18th January to the Drum Festival on 1st March. Our events are a little different, a little curious, a little loud plus a lot of learning. A perfect summer destination within easy reach of Christchurch, Little River is approximately 40 minutes from Halswell and is a lot more than just the gateway to Banks Peninsula. With a population larger than Akaroa’s you may be surprised at what’s on offer. The weekend events are a mix of traditional rural to quirky and creative, so if you are looking for something different to discover we’d love to see you. Ingham Lazy Sundays – Aasha, Will & Cullen

Aasha Mallard, Will McGillivray and Cullen Kiesanowski allow their differing musical tastes to collide in alt-rock/folk songs at the Botanic Gardens.. A Day in the Country

‘A Day in the Country’ is a free, fun day for families in a relaxed and safe country environment. Navy Warship Open to the Public

2nd February // 10am – 3pm
Lyttleton Port of Christchurch, Norwich Quay, Lyttelton

Members of the public are warmly invited to come down and visit the ship. At the Lyttelton Port, the crew of Canterbury will be ready to welcome you onboard, so why not make the most of this chance to see New Zealand’s Navy in action! Since commissioning into RNZN service on 12 June 2007 in Melbourne, the ship has been a familiar sight in Christchurch, most recently supporting the NZ Defence Force exercise Southern Katipo in November 2013. HMNZS Canterbury provides amphibious sealift and logisitics support to carry soldiers, fuel and supplies globally. Kaiapoi Waitangi Day Celebration 2014

Kaiapoi’s Waitnagi Day Celebration 2014 will feature street theatre from King Arthur and his Maori adversaries; official speeches from the Waimakariri Mayor David Ayers and Rakiihia Tau; the Corcoran French period costume competition; the launch of Kaiapoi Is The Mill, a textiule mural by Mary Kelleher; musical entertainment, market stalls and food stalls. Festival of Flowers

“Love Our Garden City” is the theme for our 25th Festival of Flowers, to be held in Cathedral Square in the beautiful Garden City of Christchurch. We are heralding the return to the inner city with this celebration of stunning floral installations, gardens and displays. The Festival launches on Saturday 8th Feb, 10am-2pm with a dynamic opening ceremony which will include live music and entertainment by artists from many cultures. This will a great day out for all.
