Photos with Santa Claus

23 November & on  // 10am – 5pm
The Palms Shopping Centre, Corner Marshland & New Brighton Road

Santa Claus makes his 2013 appearance at The Palms on Saturday 23 November, 2013. From there, the man in red, along with his entourage of elves, will be stationed in the centre for family photos and visits right up until Christmas Eve. Website: The Palms


The Great Museum Santa Search!

30th November 2013–5th January 2014 // 9:00am to 5:30pm
Canterbury Museum

Bring your family and join the fun searching high and low for our hidden Santas. If you help us find ALL our missing Santas you could win a fantastic prize. All you need to do is count the total number of toy Santas you see on the back of the entry form – available at Canterbury Museum. To help you get started, there are some clues on the back of the entry form and also a guide to help you keep track of those hidden Santas. Official Website


Christmas in the Park

30 November // 7:30 – 10:15pm
Hagley Park North, Rolleston Ave

The popular free musical event will be co-hosted by MORE FM’s Simon Barnett and Gary McCormick at Christchurch’s Hagley Park on Saturday 30th November. Show Producer Jade Turrall says, “We have a record number of artists in this year’s show – some we discovered through our auditions, some are returning favourites, and some are recent TV stars. They’re set to deliver a magical, multi-cultural mix of world class entertainment, enhanced by a laser light show and topped off by a spectacular fireworks finale!” Highlights from the concerts can be seen in the special 90 minute broadcast on TV3. Community Bootmarket & Thorrington School Kids’ Market

30 November // 10am – 2pm
Thorrington Primary School, 22a Colombo Street

Spend some quality time browsing and mingling in the community at our third annual Community Bootmarket. Thorrington School kids will also be manning their own stalls. Stock up for Christmas while your kids play on our amazing new climbing frame. Also on site will be live music from the Thorrington School of Rock and The Mule, a coffee cart, a Hellers sausage sizzle and much much more! A great community day, not to be missed!


Shirley Skate Jam

30 November // 12 – 3pm
Shirley Intermediate School

Join the Cheapskates Skate Skool and Learn to Skate this Sumner! The Shirley Skate Jam is a family friendly event with free gear hire available for beginners plus free help from the Skate Skool Team. Smile Dial Community Family Picnic & Market Day

1 December // 9am – 4:30pm
Belfast Primary School, 700 Main North Road

Stalls, Santa, princesses, facepainting, jumble sale, music, wheelbarrow races, egg & spoon race, talent show, hugging/kissing/autograph booths with flat man & kelly boy, belly dancers, manicure table, cake stands, lucky dip, raffles, $5 massages, sausage sizzle, fresh coffee & tea, balloons, lolly scramble, gypsy tea leaf readings and so much more! Christmas Concert from the Court Theatre and Christ’s College Chapel Choir

1 Decmeber // Doors open 2pm, concert starts 2:30pm
Christ’s College Chapel Rolleston Ave

The Court Theatre and Christ’s College Choir are teaming up for a lighthearted celebration of Christmas on December 1st at 2.30pm in Christ’s College chapel. Court Theatre actors will entertain with lively Christmas readings and the Christ’s College Choir will sing carols and perform an exuberant selection of seasonal music. The ticket price includes complimentary champagne and Christmas cake.  This show is about keeping the merry in Christmas. Christmas on The Green

5 Decmeber // 5:30-8pm
The Green – Buchan Park, Cnr Buchan & Wordsworth Sts, Sydenham

This will be a community event, featuring brass band, carol singing, market stalls, santa, classic cars, food & music. We wish to attract not only the local community, but people from the wider Canterbury area. This event is to help the local businesses attract new customers, for the local community to celebrate, and for the wider Christchurch community to engage with Sydenham again and about giving hope and enjoyment.


Addington School Community Twilight Fair

6 Decmeber // 5-7pm
Addington School, 22 Brougham St, Addington

All Welcome! Free live entertainment, chocolate wheel prizes to be won, artworks, games for all ages lots of stalls, car boot sale, great food, and more! Free entry. No eftpos available. Come along and meet Star Wars members in costume from Outpost 42 New Zealand Garrison of the 501st. Bring your family and friends, a picnic and enjoy yourself! Twilight Gala

Carols in the Square 2013

7 Decmeber // 4pm
Catherdral Square

Carols in the Square is a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas! This year our event will be held in the heart of Christchurch city, Cathedral Square. A free community picnic and carol service to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Featuring live music, free bouncy castles, free face-painting and games for the kids, food vendors, craft stalls and more from 4-6pm. Followed by a sing-a-long Christmas carol service from 6pm. Pack a picnic, bring your deck chairs and singing voices! Gladly brought to you by Sunday at 7 – St John’s Latimer Square. In the unlikely event of rain, this event will be cancelled.


AFFIRM (Aranui Family Festival)

7 Decmeber // 10am
Wainoni Park, 31 Hampshire Street, Aranui, Christchurch

AFFIRM is a free community event for the Aranui community. It is a celebration of the community and its people. It is promoted as a family event with lots of activities for children. Activities include: Stalls (food, information stalls on health, employment and training and fund raising opportutnites for local groups). Stage (performances throughout the day on the stage such as cultural group performances, dance and bands). Children’s activities (running races, giant games, have a go sports, face painting, bouncy castle).


Kaiapoi Carnival & Santa Parade

7 Decmeber // 9am – 3pm
57 Charles Street, Kaiapoi

A free community day of fun and entertainment for the whole family. Market & Food stalls, clowns & entertainers, music, chocolate wheels, canterbury Axemen Assoc competition and amusement rides. Plus loads more. Come along and enjoy a great day out for all the family. The Kaiapoi Carnival is a true New Zealkand Small Town Carnival- get away from the crowds and enjoy the beautiful rivertown Kaiapoi, just 20 minutes North from Central Christchurch. Santa Parade 2013

Riccarton Road

A quarter of the region will line Riccarton Road, Christchurch on Sunday December 8 to watch the Santa Parade 2013 presented by the Christchurch Children’s Christmas Parade Trust. For 65 years the Christchurch Santa Parade has brought joy and excitement to the children and citizens of Canterbury and its environs. Celebrities, spectactular floats, fantasy, popular characters, clowns, animals, thrills, bands, dancing girls, music, music, music  and of course SANTA will feature in the Parade.
