I was recently asked to review a few things of our choosing from NZ Penny Scallan Design. As a thrifty mum and with a soon to be 6 year old in the house (I’m thinking birthday gifts), this was really fun!

It took me awhile to look over the options and pick what best suited us. There are a lot of great products that are both practical and fun.

***And, you can enjoy the same! Penny Scallan Designs are offering 2 people $25 gift vouchers to their NZ site! Giveaway details are at the bottom of this page***

Today those products arrived! My 2 year old and I had fun opening and sorting them out. Here’s what we got (and my thoughts on them)…

We got the “Juicy Apple” Creative Set. Love this little set! While looking at everything online and picking out what we wanted, I must not have looked at measurements very well. This was bigger than I expected (which is great!). I expected the bag to be the size of a pencil case. But the smaller pouch, where the coloured pencils go is that size. The notebook is a bigger sized notebook and fits into the bag perfectly.

I definitely see my 5 year old using this to take crafty things along while we are out and about… using the notepad to practice her. The bag is very sturdy and I love that everything fits together perfectly. I also love that it fits the size of a full notebook so we can easily put other notebooks and reading books when this one gets full.

Next was the drawstring bag (again the “Juicy Apple” design).

This is a great little tote bag that I see us using for multiple purposes.

When the weather is nice, we often head to the pool at the Botanic Gardens or to the beach. I definitely see us using it to put our snacks and drinks on the way there and our wet togs in on the way back.

When my 2 year old starts kindy this year I plan to use it as her backpack. It’s a great size to put her lunch and jumper in. It can also handle any wet clothes that may need to come home.

This is a great little toiletry bag (Russian doll design). I tucked it away for my 5 year old’s birthday, but my 2 year old would have been quite happy to start putting treasures in it now.

We are at the stage of sorting stuff and I love that this provides a tidy way for my girls to keep their treasures and hair stuff in one place. And as sleepovers become more frequent in the years ahead, this will be great for putting toiletries. It also has a hook to hang it up when open. Again, it seems very durable. I love the design (click the link to see the Russian Doll fabric).

And last was the collectable box below (chirpy bird design). There are 5 different options for these boxes and all come with unique treasures inside.

With the one we got there was a birdhouse and 6 hair clips. I think that the birdhouse is adorable and is made of wood. The little bird is attached but comes out of the house where there is a slot to put coins in. I know my girls are going to love this! The actual collecting box is cute. However, I don’t know how long it will last us since it is a cardboard box. It seems durable for easy using, but if someone was to stand on it or something (which isn’t a far fetched thing at our house), we’d be in trouble.

We’ve already gotten comments on the hair clips in the one day that they’ve worn them. I love that they are durable, they stay in and can handle my girls’ hair (one has thick straight hair and the other has curly). As you can tell in the picture, my 2 year old loved modeling them for you to see!

A bit about the company: Penny Scallan was established in Australia over ten years ago and taken over by Carrie Felton from Stuck on You. Carrie is a working mum of 3 and in that time she has honed the designs and developed Penny Scallan Design to become one of the most revered supplier of designer kids bags and gifts in Australia. And now they are in New Zealand as well.

A big thank you to the company for allowing us the opportunity to review their products!

Disclosure: The products were sent to us free to do this review. All opinions are my own.
