Today’s interview comes from Sarah Willis. She is a Christchurch mother to 3 little ones –  ages 4,3 and 1. Her answers are so heartfelt. I’m happy to share them here with you.

Thank you Sarah!

What is your favourite thing about living in Christchurch?

  • Favourite thing about living in ChCh is the support. All my family and friends are here, but since the earthquakes there has been an amazing community support and strength that you just don’t get elsewhere( in a city) its as though we all know each other because we all understand what’s going on in each others lives.

What activity or place would you recommend to other mums who live here in Christchurch?

  • I don’t go to a lot of activities as I have three preschoolers and I don’t drive but mainly music and rumble times are awesome.. Held around the city in churches, school halls and sports centres… We also love willow bank if you have a whole day and a bit of money.. The library is always holding story times and extra things over holidays too..

What has been your biggest challenge living in Christchurch post quakes?

  • My biggest challenge living here post quakes is constantly having to reassure my 4 yo without really knowing if another one will hit.. He found Feb 22 particularly hard as we were in the city and we lived in Diamond Harbour where we fell ALL the aftershocks.. So he was having nightmares and anxiety about them.. We since moved and with the aftershocks settling now he Is showing huge improvement… Also getting out of the house is a challenge as I have a third child now and I’m nervous about catching a bus anywhere with them in case another hits and I can’t get home.

Where do you see beauty in your life right now – as a mum, in your career, in relationships, in your home, in our city – that you would like to share?

  • I feel like my life is pretty tough at the moment and I have to remind myself daily that I’m lucky to be here and that all my kids are safe.. We have a roof over our heads and are getting by which is more than some people.. I see beauty in my kids for sure.. Flickers in the day where they make me laugh or feel intense love for them.. But mostly I see beauty in my relationship with my husband.. We have had a rocky 6 years of marriage with many challenges but we work through them and we are closer and stronger than ever.. I am truly lucky to have someone who loves me more than anything.
